In England and Wales there has been the perception of an atmosphere of suspicion between the State sector and the Independent sector in education. Nevertheless, and in the face of frequently ambivalent and occasionally hostile reaction from Local Authorities, partnerships of one sort or another between schools in different sectors have developed and prospered.
